The Coffee Yards 48hr Fermentation Uganda

Norman Mukuru began his career as an agronomist in Kasese, later continuing his education as an agronomical engineer and turning his attention to coffee. After establishing collection and processing operations for Great Lakes in western Uganda and Mt. Elgon, Norman founded The Coffee Yards, a central processing plant outside Mbale where coffee from the surrounding mountain communities could be  processed and dried.

The Coffee Yards initially operated as a processing service for farmers, but Norman eventually shifted to purchasing cherry directly to improve processing efficiency and consistency. When Great Lakes collapsed, Norman was left with The Coffee Yards and its network of community stations. Today, the operation works with four stations purchasing from approximately 300 registered farmers, with a focus on specialty coffee and building a sustainable business.
